| 06/04/2009 McCurtains v Cuchullainns Murphy Cup | | McCurtains first game of the season ended in defeat against Cuchallainns in Greenford on Sunday. Despite starting well McCurtains faded in the second half as Cuchullainns surperior fitness and the quality of their two county players showed. McCurtains though will be happy with what they saw from their new look team in the first half. The team that started on Sunday contained none of the Intermediate Championship winning team from 2007, which shows how badly the club has been affected by player turnover in the past 18 months. But saying that the new players gelled well and but for a lack of fitness would have given their apponents a better run for their money in the second half. McCurtains dominated the first half and led 0-7 to 0-3 at the break thanks to their midfield dominance and clever forward play. Mac's started the second half well and scored first but this was to be their last score of the game as tired legs were already beginning to show. Cuchullainns also began to get the upper hand in midfield what gave them the platform for their second half dominance. After they had clawed themselves back they scored a lucky goal and this give them the confidence to tag on some late points to make the scoreline a little bit flattering. Best for McCurtains were JP McArdle, Brendan O'Grady, Pat Cunnane, Conor Maunsell and Micheal Kelleher. |
